What is this horrible bird noise coming from my fireplace?!?

Unfortunately, warm, summer air brings invasive, annoying Chimney Swifts.
What are chimney swifts?
Chimney Swifts are among the most aerial of birds, flying almost constantly except when roosting overnight and nesting. When they do come to rest, they never sit on perches like most birds. Their long claws however are suited for clinging to the walls of chimneys and other vertical surfaces. Nesting most often takes place within a chimney lining thats missing its chimney cap or cover.
Are chimney swifts rare?
Chimney swifts are not known to be a rare species. Swifts however have been noted to return to their same nesting areas year over year despite migration.
What to do if I have chimney swifts?
Chimney swifts are protected under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act, their nests cannot be removed or messed with whatsoever until the young have left. Smoking out chimney swifts can result in death and further extensive cleanup in the long run. Swifts must leave their nest with their young, at which point Brickhaus Chimney is well suited to clean up anything nesting/byproduct left behind.
How long do chimney swifts last?
According to birds of the world, chimney swifts finish nesting by the end of August at the latest but more likely early August, and they will leave to begin migration in early September just like any other migratory species. Typically once nested in a chimney, swifts will typically leave within 3-6 weeks. Once no noise is heard for a minimum of 3 days, contact Brickhaus to come sweep your system and install proper termination coverage.
